For our most recent installment of our “Meet the RocketBuilder” series, we bring you Gwen Faraday, Senior Software Developer. Gwen has a background in software consulting and technical writing with a particular interest in web and blockchain technologies. She’s seriously passionate and dedicated to giving back to the developer community with her self-published book, YouTube series, and blog.
Q & A with Gwen Faraday
Q: What is your role at RocketBuild, and what does it entail?
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I also code personal projects for fun. Outside of coding, I foster cats and kittens.
Q: What is your current favorite coding language or framework?
A: I really enjoy working with Golang, and I have always wanted to build something with Rust; I think I will pick that up and try out some Web Assembly.
Q: What’s your favorite local lunch spot?
A: Condado Tacos. My favorite is the Dutch Dragon taco on their specials menu.
Q: What are you super passionate about?
A: I like to teach people how to code and help people who are learning and trying to get their first job.
Q: If you had to stay up all night, what drinks and snacks would you need to keep you going?
A: I have done this several times at hackathons, and I like to have Rockstar energy drinks, maple candy, and tortilla chips with salsa.
Q: What got you into your career?
A: I enjoyed building websites as a teenager and always loved computers. I was really dissatisfied with my previous jobs, and I needed something more fulfilling, mentally stimulating, and challenging.
Q: What’s your current favorite band or artist?
A: I can watch Bob Ross all day long; he has a very soothing voice and demeanor.
Q: What’s your favorite type of project or client to work with?
A: I like to work where I get a lot of creative control to make decisions and try out different solutions. It makes the job fun and engaging.
Q: Give us a fun fact about yourself:
A: I used to sail and windsurf on the ocean a lot. Someday, I will have a houseboat and explore the world!
