Meet Tyler Poling, Senior Director of Technical Solutions. Tyler is a tech-focused strategist with many years of experience in technology leadership at agencies and corporations. He has a background in marketing, project management, technical direction, creative direction, cross-department communication, and client support. He plies his talents for RocketBuild’s clients by assisting with product strategy, user experience guidance, and development team leadership.
Q & A with Tyler Poling
Q: What is your role at RocketBuild, and what does it entail?
A: Senior Director of Technical Solutions. I help to manage our software development and project management teams as well as act as a product manager for a number of our application based projects.
Q: What three words might people use to describe you?
A: Empathetic, friendly, hard-working
Q: What got you into your career?
A: I started out in logistics, then turned to marketing which led to product management. During that time, I taught myself some basics of development and worked my way into the field through an agency job.
Q: Describe your educational experience?
A: I attended college at Grand Valley State University in Allendale (Grand Rapids), MI where I received a BA in Marketing with an emphasis on Logistics.
Q: Describe your professional experience?
A: I started out in logistics and realized it was not my passion. I moved on to utilize my degree in marketing which then lead me to development. I have held different roles as a Product Manager, Technical Architect, and Development Manager.
Q: What is your current favorite coding language or framework?
A: Since I no longer have to actually write any or actually touch code… I will leave this answer to actual developers who know what they are doing.
Q: What’s your favorite type of project or client to work with?
A: Projects where we can launch what we have been working on and see an immediate impact from the user base or community. Working hard on something and getting a quick return is always rewarding.
Q: What are you super passionate about?
A: I enjoy seeing a product go from an idea to a functioning piece of software that can provide value/make a difference for users and clients.
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I like to homebrew, watch baseball, play with my kiddos/family, cook, binge watch tv shows.
Q: If you had to stay up all night for a hackathon, what drinks and snacks would you need to keep you going?
A: Coffee and more coffee

Q: Favorite band or artist?
A: Ugggh, that is the hardest question, haha
Q: Favorite place you’ve ever visited?
A: Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado
Q: A fun fact about yourself?
A: I toured with a band for a few summers and acted as a merch guy/tour manager. Managing teams has apparently been a long-term thing with me.
