Meet Jon Krouse, Senior Software Developer. He brings strong Ruby on Rails experience to the team, and also helps keep us all up to speed on the wide world of sports. He learned his programming skills from the coding bootcamp, The Iron Yard, where he also became an instructor. His full-stack development capabilities and great sense of humor make him an excellent collaborative teammate.

Q: What is your role at RocketBuild, and what does it entail?
A: I help the team build apps for our clients.
Q: What three words might people use to describe you?
A: Dry, passionate, introverted
Q: What got you into your career?
A: I always had an interest in programming when I was growing up. Then I went to The Iron Yard to develop the skills I needed to get into the field.
Q: Describe your educational experience?
A: High School, some college, and a coding boot camp (The Iron Yard)
Q: Describe your professional experience?
A: I went from being an Associate Instructor at The Iron Yard to being a Ruby on Rails developer at a financial analytics startup before starting at RocketBuild.
Q: What is your current favorite coding language or framework?
A: Ruby on Rails
Q: What’s your favorite type of project or client to work with?
A: Web apps, especially those with a lot of data manipulation
Q: What are you super passionate about?
A: The Indy 500 and IndyCar in general
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I watch a lot of sports, and I also play video and board games with friends. Gloomhaven is the current game of choice.
Q: If you had to stay up all night for a hackathon, what drinks and snacks would you need to keep you going?
A: Diet Dr. Pepper and soft pretzels

A: I won a bet with friends for flights and a room in Las Vegas by growing my hair long enough to put in a bun.

A: Most of the interior house shots in Home Alone were filmed on a sound stage at New Trier High School in Northfield, Illinois.
