Q & A with Caleb Francis
Q: What is your role at RocketBuild, and what does it entail?
A: Director of Product Engineering. In addition to building software with the team, I work with clients and management to scope projects and keep things on track.
Q: What three words might people use to describe you?
A: Driven, resourceful, creative
Q: What got you into your career?
A: A year or two of self-teaching and a course at the Iron Yard. I met RocketBuild during an event at the Indy campus and applied later that day.
Q: Describe your educational experience?
A: I got my start in development by learning independently for about a year, followed by a three month software development program at the Iron Yard.
Q: Describe your professional experience?
A: I started at RocketBuild over 5 years ago. I had a brief stint at another company and found my way back shortly after.
Q: What is your current favorite coding language or framework?
A: Python <3
Q: What’s your favorite type of project or client to work with?
A: I love working with entrepreneurs on new mobile/web applications — especially when we get the opportunity to build the whole platform, from the mobile app to the API. This is a great way for us to exercise our diverse domain knowledge and think about bigger problems.
Q: What are you super passionate about?
A: I love working on obscure problems and finding software solutions.
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I try to spend as much time with friends and family as I can. When I’m home I like to make music and play video games.
Q: If you had to stay up all night for a hackathon, what drinks and snacks would you need to keep you going?
A: Mountain Dew Baja Blast and Reese’s Cups (preferably one of the holiday versions). My stomach hurts just thinking about that.
Q: Favorite local lunch spot?
A: Where I am now in Denver: Raising Cane’s. Back home in Indiana, it’s gotta be Chatham Tap.
Q: Favorite band or artist?
Q: Favorite place you’ve ever visited?
I did a solo trip in Europe. Exploring Zurich by myself was an incredible experience.
Q: A fun fact about yourself?
A: My middle name is Onesimus.
Q: A random fun fact?
A: Theodore Roosevelt had a pet hyena.
