BRINGING ORDER TO CHAOS

Kiwanis Key Club needed to improve the way their members discovered volunteer opportunities and tracked participation hours. The existing solution was error-prone and disorganized, and the user experience wasn’t what it should be. The right solution needed to create a positive user experience, gather more robust member data, and foster student advocacy.

Xiik and RocketBuild’s solution was a mobile app which would provide an organized structure for managing service hours and events. The app would solve for needs at both the member and club level, while adhering to conservative budget constraints.

Implemented a custom API and app management backend. Integrated with client's existing systems for user auth and club data. Built a cross platform app (single code base, iOS and Android) that connects to these systems and behaves like a native app.

PARTNERING TO PROVIDE SOLUTIONS

Effective problem solving doesn’t happen in a vacuum, it requires teamwork and transparent communication.  Xiik invited RocketBuild to be an active partner in the process, including us in client meetings with Key Club to discuss needs and brainstorm solutions.  Xiik hosted collaborative design review sessions, to be sure designs incorporated development best practices.  The reviews also ensured that xiik’s creative vision was driving development decisions.

DESIGNS TO DRIVE DEVELOPMENT

Based on the strategic concepts and designs xiik created, RocketBuild developed a clean and purposeful user experience, controlled costs using cross-platform development frameworks wherever possible, and built the majority of the app’s UI in web-based technologies which were then compiled into native Android and iOS apps.

Through a custom API, the platform leverages as much of Kiwanis’ existing data about student members as is feasible, minimizing data fragmentation.  The app and custom CMS allows students and officers to:

  • Manage service projects and track service hours
  • Keep track of upcoming events and meetings
  • RSVP and “check-in” to service projects
  • Monitor service levels in other areas of the United States, Canada and the Caribbean (with scalability built in for new future locations)
  • Pull reports of recorded service hours for any time period
